The Rayirath garden owned and promoted by Sudhakaran Rayirath, is one of best nurseries in Kerala which specialises in Ayurveda herbs and fruit trees.  The eight acres of land with nursery and garden situated on the foot hills of Vellani Mala of Pananchery Panchayath in Thrissur district, offers you a wide variety of medicinal plants, imported plants, fruit plants, ornamental plants and tissue culture plants.

The core of the garden caters to medicinal plants, which hosts over 5oo varieties of plants, trees and creepers. Sudhakaran started the nursery in 1998 in half an acre of land. As there were many nurseries in and around that village, right from the beginning itself he decided to concentrate on Ayurvedic herbs. Since then he has been in regular touch with the tribes for sourcing these rare medicinal plants from the forest. He has also interacted with botanist and Arurveda experts to identify the exact species of plants. Gradually he was able to establish the name Rayirath gardens, which became synomnous with medicinal plants and he became an expert on medicinal plants. A portion of the nursery has been kept aside for establishing an Herbs park - a demonstrative garden for herbs and medicinal plants.

Sudhakaran Rayirath is a graduate in Botany hailing from the Rayirath family. According to him, it was the will of god that brought him into this field. His father died during his college studies at that time Sudhakaran was running a rice mill, established by his father. Out of his personal interest, he diverted into the field of Medicinal plant nursery in 1998. He has conducted training classes on Medicinal plants, to students, women and the public. He also has given consultation to some Universities, Colleges and Ayurveda institutions for setting up herbs gardens.

His effort was recognised by several organizations in India and abroad including the Oiska International, Japan and was awarded the 'Punarnava Award' in 2004. Recently he also diversified his activity into Ayurvedic health care service by establishing a full- fledged Ayurveda Treatment centre named Rayirath Heritage.

The role of Sudhakaran and his nursery has helped a lot in creating awareness on  Ayurveda herbs, which was once the lifeline of Ayurvedic health care tradition of Kerala.
