The Calicut University campus, located at the border between Malappurm and Kozhikode districts, is unique with its achievement of having one of the largest campus botanical gardens in India. Established in 1971, the Calicut University Botanical Garden (CUBG) has now being developed as an excellent centre of biodiversity. Having been recognised by the International Consortium of Botanic Garden and Centre for World Conservation Strategy, it has attained international status in 1985. Ginger Zone is one of the prestigious sections in the garden which according to the CUBG officials is the largest live collection of gingers (Zingibereaceae) in India. Another interesting experience is the Jungle trail through the untouched area of forest like land in the garden.
