A new art Gallery has been opened in a heritage building at Jew street, Mattancherry in Ernakulam. The gallery named Ishana Art Gallery was inaugurated by Mrs. Sarah Cohen, the senior most member from the remaining Jews in Mattancherry, on 15 January 2015. 

A new art Gallery has been opened in a heritage building at Jew street, Mattancherry in Ernakulam. The gallery named Ishana Art Gallery was inaugurated by Mrs. Sarah Cohen, the senior most member from the remaining Jews in Mattancherry, on 15 January 2015.

The main gallery, of about 1000 sq ft area is functioning in the first floor of the building. The entrance area in the ground floor is also utilised for the display of paintings and murals. The gallery space can be utilised for solo and group exhibition from interested artists.  The gallery is an initiative by a group of artists under the banner Panthirukulam, and is coordinated by Sasi K Warrier, a mural artist and the director of Indian School of Arts, Ernakulam. The inaugural exhibition was based on the subject “Mattancherry” and all the 12 founder members of Panthirukulam had displayed their paintings based on the varied heritage and culture of Mattancherry.

According to Sasi K Warrier, the primary objective of the gallery is to provide a artistic space for the 12 artist members in Panthirukulam group. They also envisages to convert this gallery space to a meeting point for various artists and to acilitate various cultural activities like workshops, interactive talks etc by other artists.
