A novel project of Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, the 'Moving Art Gallery' was launched on 20th January 2016 with an aim to popularise and foster the visual arts by reaching out to the general public. 

A novel project of Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, the 'Moving Art Gallery' was launched on 20th January 2016 with an aim to popularise and foster the visual arts by reaching out to the general public. After the inauguration, the Moving Art Gallery, the well designed bus completed the first phase of travel across Kerala from Thriruvananthapuram to Kasargode from 20 Jan to 05 Feb.

The gallery displayed a collection of paintings ranging from cave paintings, traditional paintings, murals etc. and works of renowned artists including Raja Ravi Varma, K.C.S. Panicker, Padmini and M.V.Devan. It also showcased select works of contemporary artists.  The moving gallery also organized art camps, workshops and documentary screening in all districts as part of its journey.

According to Vaikom M K Shibu, Secretary of the Akademi, Moving Art Gallery is the first of its kind in the country and Artists can exhibit their paintings in this gallery and the bus has the facility for the sale of painting as well as books.  In the next phase of travel, the moving gallery will reach the villages of the state.
