A five day workshop and exhibition on coconut leaf crafts was conducted at ICAR- CPCRI (Indian Council for Agriculture Research- Central Plantation Crops Research Institute) campus, Kasaragod, from 6th to 10th of September 2016

The workshop was organized jointly by ICAR- CPCRI, Folkland Kasaragod, an international centre for folklore and culture and Kasaragod Chapter of INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage).

The main objective of the workshop was to create awareness among the public for the use and utilities of palm leaves (coconut tree) there by to handover the tradition to the next generation. According to Dr. V Jayarajan of Folkland the workshop will help to promote and preserve the myriad features of coconut leaf crafts and to design a tangible plan for the survival of the eco friendly products in order to protect the bio diversity.

There were around 25 craftsmen, who demonstrated the use of dry leaves (roofing, fencing, curtains, partitions etc), mature leaves (fish baskets, grass baskets, rain coats etc) and tender leaves (decorations, religious/ritual purposes, toys, artifacts etc.).
