The book is a catalogue of drawings, paintings, graphic paints, and sculptures of Artist M V Devan (1928- 2014), who contributed immensely to the modernist sensibility and inquisitive mindset of Keralites.  Born in Kerala in 1928, Devan was a student of D P Roy Choudhuri and K C S Panicker at Government School of Arts and Crafts, Chennai, in the years 1946- 52. After his studies, he joined as Staff Artist of Mathrubhumi, a leading Malayalam newspaper and his illustrations for poems, novels and short stories became path breaking in the area of illustration.

Later he became Malayalam Editor and Art consultant to the Southern Language Book Trust. He was also secretary of Madras State Lalithakala Academy and was member of Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. During 1968- 72 he worked as Art consultant for FEDO (FACT) and designed Ambalamedu township in Kerala. He was the honorary Director of Kerala Institute of Arts and was also nominated as the Chairman of Kerala Lalithakala Akademi. He was the founder member and Vice President of Kerala Kalapeetom, Kochi. Later he was the Director of Malayala Kalagramam situated at New Mahe in Kerala.

As an artist he has executed murals for various buildings and has done several paintings. His creative oeuvre includes stained glass panels, wooden reliefs, granite sculptures and drawings.

As an Architect he has designed more than 450 houses, auditoria, hotels and church.

He was a recipient of Raja Ravi Varma Puraskaram, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Puraskaram, Malayatoor Ramakrishnan Award, Vayalar Award, etc. and was also conferred Fellowship from the Chennai Regional Lalit Kala Akademi and from Kerala Lalithakala Akademi.
