Valiya Theeyattu/ Vela Festival at Vairankodu Bhagavathy Kshethram-
This is the main annual festival at the temple. A number of processions with folk forms like Poothan & Thira, Kattalan (a mythological character, considered as the soldier of Lord Shiva) Pulikkali(tiger dance), Fire dance etc. gather here from nearby villages (3pm to mid night). Most of the teams carry Poykkala, the huge decorated effigies of twin bullocks and ceremoniously dedicate it to the deity for the wellbeing of the cattle, a ritual associated with the agrarian tradition. Velichappadu (oracle) & Thalappoli (procession with traditional oil lamps), Kanalaattom(fire walk), fireworks are performed after midnight.
Location/access: The temple is at Vairamkode, near Thirunavaya, accessible from Kuttippuram or from Puthanathani in Malappuram District, Kerala.
