Title: ‘Flowering Trees’ and ‘Vining-Wands’,
Artists: K. Madhavi and Devu Nenmara.
Flowering Trees and ‘Vining-Wands’ is an exhibition of the rich and colourful human experiences of two artists, their indigenous memories, knowledge and observations. The blooming trees in Devu's paintings seem to be a painter's rhetoric. They are places for people to stand and hide. They create sensory spaces to look at from top to bottom or from bottom to top in multiple directions. K. Madhavi paints interchangeable spaces and colors by documenting the areas she lived in before and after her marriage, as well as her own life, in their own time, with great interest. These women artists topple the notion of 'privilege' and reconsider the relationship between art, women and workplaces.
The exhibition is part of the Contemporary Two Person Art Exhibition Project, organized by Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, Thrissur and curated by Dr. Kavitha Balakrishnan.
