Thrissur Pooram

10 May 2022: Temple festival Pooram at Thrissur with Elephant processions, Melam, Panchavadyam, Kudamattom, Fireworks etc.

 A sportive performance between two major temples Paramekkavu and Thiruvambady held at the premise of the famous Vadakkumnathan Temple at Thrissur. Eight other neighbouring temples also participate in this celebration.

On this day various ‘Pooram’ processions- caparisoned elephants accompanied by Panchavadyam/Paandimelam and carrying the image of the respective deity- from the participating temples visit Vadakkumnathan temple. Elanjhitharamelam (afternoon) - Three hour long Melam by eminent artists,  Kudamattom (by around 5pm)- the spectacular show of changing the silk parasols by two teams , supported by  Alavattom (peacock feather fan) and Venchamaram (yak tail bunches) and the Fireworks in the late night are the highlights. Sample fireworks, display of elephants’ ornaments & accessories by two major teams on the previous day to Pooram and one and a half month long Trade exhibition starting from April are the other attractions.

Caparisoned elephants carrying the image of the deity accompanied by Melam/Panjavadyam are repeated on the next day morning (11 May 2022)as part of the concluding ceremony.
