Koothu Thalappoli festival at Kulangara Bhagavathi Kshethram
Highlights:
Daily- 10pm to 6-7 hours- Tholpavakoothu, traditional Shadow puppetry based on the story of 'Ramayan'
Last day (19 Jan 2025): 5am- 12noon- Pathiru Vanibham ( village fair), 1pm- 5pm- procession outside the temple with caparisoned elephants, Melam, Panchavadyam etc. , After 5pm- performance of folk forms like Poothan, Thira, Karimkali, Kaala etc., After midnight(1am- 5am) Thalappoli procession with caparisoned elephants Melam/Panchavadyam etc. Parayeduppu (ceremonial procession for collecting grains) from nearby homes starts almost one month before, by Pana (ritual folk art) performers with the accompaniments of Para drums.
